Ashley Moloney has announced himself as a contender on the international stage with an Australian record in the decathlon at the Queensland Multi-Event Championships.
Moloney added two points to the previous record set by Jagan Hames in 1998 with a performance of 8492 points. A sensational first day, where Moloney set the 13th highest mark in history with 4613 points, was highlighted by a 45.82s 400m (the third fastest ever in a decathlon) and 10.36s for 100m. Moloney’s performance is the second best in the world this year and bettered the Olympic entry standard.

In Perth, Nina Kennedy, who already has bettered the Olympic entry standard in the pole vault, did so again. This time Kennedy lifted her personal best to 4.72m to move to equal second on the Australian all-time list.
In Sydney, Sarah Carli set a new personal best in the 400m hurdles at the Albie Thomas Mile meet, running 55.09 seconds to better the Olympic entry standard. The performance moved her to fourth on the Australian all-time list.
