Queensland javelin thrower Liam O’Brien was the star performer of the week, recording an Australian all-time top 10 performance in the javelin.
In his first competition since COVID-19 curtailed the end of the 2019/20 domestic season, O’Brien launched the javelin to a personal best of 81.65m at the Jai Taurima Shield meet at QSAC, to improve his mark as 10th on the Australian all-time list.
Elsewhere, NSW teenager Monique Quirk continued her strong early season form with wind-assisted performances in Wollongong. The 19-year-old clocked 11.48 (3.8) over 100m and 23.54 (2.8) over 200m. At the same meet Anas Abu Ganaba rode the illegal winds to a 10.26 (3.3) / 20.91 (3.3) sprint double, while Nick Hough‘s 13.89 second 110m hurdles was run with the maximum allowable 2.0 m/s tailwind.
