In his first competition since COVID-19 curtailed the end of the 2019/20 domestic season, O’Brien launched the javelin to a personal best of 81.65m at the Jai Taurima Shield meet at QSAC, to improve his mark as 10th on the Australian all-time list.

Elsewhere, NSW teenager Monique Quirk continued her strong early season form with wind-assisted performances in Wollongong. The 19-year-old clocked 11.48 (3.8) over 100m and 23.54 (2.8) over 200m.
