20-year-old Christopher Ius has rocketed into Olympic relay team calculations, slashing his 100m personal best by three-tenths of a seconds to 10.24 seconds in Sydney.

Running at the Illawong High Velocity Meet 2 at the traditionally blustery venue of The Ridge in southern Sydney, Ius made the most of the favourable 1.9 m/s tailwind and moved to =19th on the Australian all-time list. He finished ahead of Victoria’s Michael Romanin (10.32) with the top five in the field running 10.50s or quicker.

Running at the same meet, junior Monique Quirk took out a 11.61 (1.3) / 23.74 (0.1) sprint double. The night prior, in Canberra, 15-year-old Imogen Stewart ran 9:01.36 over 3000m. The performance is under the current Australian U16 and U18 records but will not count for record purposes due to being recorded in a mixed race.
