Australia’s Favourite Athletics Photos Crowned
Over 4,000 votes from the Australian athletics community have crowned Australia’s favourite athletics photos from the past 12 months.
Queensland photographer Kylie Nyssen claimed a rare double victory, winning both the Best Track Photo and Best Field Photo categories for her stunning images “Sunset Serenade” and “Reaching for Rainbows.”

Nyssen becomes the first repeat winner in the fifth annual Inside Athletics Photo Competition, conducted by independent athletics website InsideAthletics.com.au.

Runners-up were Holly Smee, for her image “The Mirror Between Us” in the Best Track Photo category, and Natalie Wong for her image “Hope”, featuring world champion high jumper Nicola Olyslagers preparing to jump at the 2025 Australian Championships.

More than 60 entries were received in this year’s competition, ranging from parent photographers at Little Athletics meets to hobbyists and professionals covering national and international events.
“The competition showcased a dedicated band of photographers who bring the sport to life by capturing its motion and emotion week in, week out,” said Inside Athletics founder, Tim McGrath.
“Their images tell the stories that statistics can’t — of determination, joy, and community. They may differ in experience or equipment, but what unites them is a deep love of athletics.
“We’re proud to celebrate that passion and the people behind the lens, and the sport we all love.”
