The 5th Ring: Genevieve Gregson

Few athletes in Australian history have worn the green and gold with as much resilience, reinvention and raw honesty as Genevieve Gregson. A four-time Olympian, new mum of two, and now a marathoner chasing an unprecedented fifth Games, Gregson has launched her YouTube channel with a beautifully open, behind-the-scenes look at her life in 2025 — and it’s everything we love about her.

In this first episode, Gen takes us inside race week just three months postpartum: the chaos, the doubt, the laughs, the 8×1km sessions that feel harder than they should, and the delicate balance of elite training woven around feeding schedules, Pilates, physio check-ins and hotel-room logistics that every parent will smile at.

We also see the Gregson partnership in full flight — Ryan’s Type-A precision, Gen’s joyful stubbornness, and the shared hunger that still drives both of them long after their résumés were complete. There’s honesty about rebuilding fitness, the emotional shift that motherhood has brought, the messy bits of the comeback, and the deep belief that somewhere, in one of these races, everything will click.

And then there’s Melbourne: the MCG finish, the surprise pace, the sub-74 breakthrough, the celebration with friends, the mum-crew champagne, and the quiet moment of realisation that she’s genuinely on the way back.

It’s a wonderful portrait of an athlete who has nothing left to prove — and still wants more.
