From upcoming world-record chases to off-track headlines, here’s your quick-fire wrap of the week’s biggest stories in athletics.

Hull to Pace Kipyegon’s 3000m World Record Bid

Olympic 1500m champion Faith Kipyegon will target Wang Junxia’s 32-year-old 3000m world record (8:06.11) at Saturday’s Silesia Diamond League, joined by surprise pacemaker Jess Hull. Bol Targets Tokyo 400H Defence Without McLaughlin-Levrone

Femke Bol prepares to defend her 400m hurdles world title without facing Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone, who is instead focusing on the flat 400m. She could also anchor the Netherlands in both mixed and women’s 4×400 relays — potentially bringing a dramatic duel with McLaughlin-Levrone.

Fred Kerley, Olympic 100m silver (Tokyo 2020) and bronze (Paris 2024) medallist and 2022 world champion, has been provisionally suspended by the Athletics Integrity Unit for three missed drug tests within 12 months — violations that carry up to a two-year ban.
