Queensland’s Callum Davies took out the Victorian 5000m title in just over 14 minutes at Lakeside Stadium on a cold Thursday evening.
The former national champion over 1500m and 5000m, Davies was too strong for the local field, running away over the final lap to stop the clock in 14:00.78.

Australian junior cross country champion Yohanes Dagnaw was second (14:01.40) and took the gold medal in the Victorian title ahead of Liam Cashin (14:01.82) and fellow junior Charles Barrett (14:03.49).

In fifth place Lucas Chis broke the Australian U18 record with a run of 14:06.76.

The women’s race was a tactical affair with Stephanie Kelly prevailing in the final lap kick in 16:38.45 ahead of Bianca Puglisi (16:40.41) and a fast finishing Karen Blaney (16:41.59).

Imogen Baker was the fastest female on the night, taking out the U20 race in 16:34.43, leaving Suzanna Mavromihalis (17:27:41) and Asha Morrow (17:43.65) to fill the minor places.

Jack Larner took advantage of the top juniors running in the open race, taking out the U20 title in 14:51.92 after a close race with NSW’s Joel Harlor (14:53.41), with Eddy Franzke third (15:09.53).
