Claudia Hollingsworth Breaks Four Minutes at Box Hill, Climbs to No.3 All-Time

Fresh off her victory in the national 3000m titles, Claudia Hollingsworth has shot to number three on the Australian all-time list over 1500m.

Running at the Box Hill Classic the 20-year-old stopped the clock at 3:58.09 to record the fastest ever performance by an Australian in Australia. The run bettered the mark of 3:59.33 set by Linden Hall on the same track in 2021 when she became the first Australian to break 4 minutes for the metric mile.

Hollingsworth’s performances also bettered the 4:01.50 qualifying standard for this year’s Commonwealth Games. Currently Jess Hull is the only other athlete with the standard, which guarantees selection if coupled with nationals victory.

Hollingsworth was paced for the first two laps by training partner Bendere Oboya before then following, and running away from, the pacing lights set for 4:01 pace.
