A record breaking season for Australian athletes

The northern hemisphere summer has seen Australian records set on 19 occasions.

It’s a remarkable feat, with records falling in every event group except the sprints and hurdles.

On the track Australia’s middle distance runners spread the honours. In the women’s ranks Catriona Bisset (800m), Abbey Caldwell (1000m), Linden Hall (1500m) and Jess Hull (Mile) all ended the season as the fastest Australian ever. Hall and Hull swapped the 1500m record throughout the season.

The men’s middle distance runners also shone, with Joseph Deng (800m), Oli Hoare (1500m) and Stewart McSweyn (2000m) all setting new marks.

In the field Nicola Olyslagers leapt to equal 20th on the global all-time list with her 2.03m final jump of the season.
