Course record to Ed Marks at Sydney Harbour 10

Victoria’s Ed Marks swapped the streets of Melbourne for Sydney, defeating a strong field this morning at the Sydney Harbour 10.

Marks, 24, beat home a field of 9,000 runners to clock a swift 28:12 to break the course record set by Martin Dent in the inaugural edition of the event.

Marks beat home NSW’s Luke Hince (28:51) and fellow Victorian Liam Cashin (29:00).

“It was my first time doing this event and my first road race in Sydney” said Marks, who recently made a 60:57 half marathon debut on the Gold Coast.

“It was quite hard. I think I underestimated all the twists and turns. Usually the road courses are down and back, so there’s nothing to break your rhythm, but it felt good. I started pushing around 3km, kept the pressure on and hoped I could make it to the end.”

“Next I have National Cross Country and I am hoping to make the Australian team for the World Athletics Road Running Championships which will be in Copenhagen in September. I also really want to win the nationals for cross country. I’ve come second and third a couple of times, but haven’t won it yet.”

World cross country representative Holly Campbell took out the women’s race in 32:39, winning easily from Amy Robinson (33:50) and Eloise Wellings (34:19).

“I really enjoyed the run, the weather was beautiful, and I can never complain when I come away with a win,” Campbell said.

“Next up, I’ll run City2Surf, which will be my first time, and then the Australian Cross Country Championships.”

In Melbourne, Matt Buckell took line honours in the Albert Park 10 in 29:08 while Donve Viljoen won the women’s race in 33:28.
