Andy Buchanan and Holly Campbell have honed their preparations for races later this month by taking out one of the world’s largest running event: Sydney’s City2Surf.
Buchanan clocked 40:27 to win the 14km race from Sydney’s Hyde Park to the iconic Bondi Beach, finishing over 30 seconds ahead of Luke Hince.
“I really enjoyed that run, it was good fun. It’s good to be back here after many years,” Buchanan told the event broadcast after the race.
“I wanted to sit in until Heartbreak Hill but I just got out and felt good, so I thought I wanted to control it and run how I want to run.”
Buchanan next lines up for the Sydney Marathon on 30 August.
Hince clocked 41:05 for second while former winner Ed Goddard was third in 41:50.

In the women’s race Holly Campbell continued her strong form on the roads for a runaway victory in the women’s race, finishing two-and-a-half minutes clear of Eloise Wellings with a 46:35 win.
“It was absolutely amazing, there were so many people out there cheering,” Campbell said.
“I tried to not take the hills too hard today because I haven’t run the course before.”
Campbell lines up as favourite for the Australian Cross Country Championships in Ballarat in a fortnight’s time.
Wellings clocked 49:06 for second, with Great Britain’s Stacy Winter third in 49:19.
Over 90,000 people entered this year’s event, with around 73,000 expected to start and finish the event based on previous results.
