Linden Hall recaptured the national 1500m record at Box Hill, to add to the 1000m record she set at the same venue a month earlier.
The Box Hill Classic delivered sensational racing conditions, combined with the support of the Melbourne distance running community. Hall made the most of both, becoming the first Australian woman to break four minutes for 1500m with a run of 3:59.67.
Jye Edwards also capitalised on the conditions, taking out the highest quality 1500m race of the season in a new personal best of 3:35.46 ahead of Matthew Ramsden and Ryan Gregson. In the 3000m David McNeill improved his 3000m personal best to 7:46.11, while Brad Mathas got the better of training partner Peter Bol in the 800m in 1:46.31. Read our full recap below.
Australia’s richest footrace, the Stawell Gift, is where athletics action usually centres over the Easter long weekend. Taking home the $40,000 winners cheques in the 120m Gifts were Ed Ware (off 9.75m) and Hayley Orman (off 9.75m). Stewart McSweyn ran impressively in the 3200m, finishing fourth in 8:20.26 (equivalent to 7:49 3000m pace), while Dhruv Rodrigues Chico (1m) took out the Backmarkers 120m Gift from Hana Basic (11.5m) in a time of 12.36 seconds.
