Brooke Buschkuehl needed just one jump in the long jump qualifying to move through to tomorrow’s final.
A 6.83m with a near perfect 1.8 m/s tailwind saw the 33-year-old top the qualifying rounds.
With two silver medals to her name from previous Commonwealth Games appearances, Buschkuehl will be aiming to become the sixth Australian gold medallist in the event at the Commonwealth Games, following Decimal Norman (1938), Pam Ryan (1962), Jane Flemming (1990), Nicole Boegman (1994) and Bronwyn Thompson (2006).
The competition will be tight, with three other athletes – Jazmin Sawyers (6.80m), Lucy Hadaway (6.77m) and Ruth Uroso (6.77m) – also jumping over the automatic qualifier.
Delta Amidzovki used all three of her attempts in the other qualifying pool, leaping 6.55m (+2.4) to finish 8th overall for the 12 woman final. Amidzovski’s 6.84m from the qualifying round at the Australian Championships in April is the leading season’s best of athletes in Glasgow.
