Linden Hall equals Jess Hull’s record for The Tan

Linden Hall in action at Run the Tan 2025

Linden Hall has covered the 3.827km of Melbourne’s Tan in 11 minutes, 32 seconds to equal the record set three years ago by Jess Hull.

Hall was a late entry into the annual Run the Tan event and stopped the clock at 11:31.42 (rounded to 11:32 under conventional timekeeping standards for out-of-stadia distance events) in her 51 second victory over national steeplechase champion Cara Feain-Ryan.

Hall’s run was a five-second improvement in her best, set when finishing second to Hull in 2023, where the now Olympic silver medallist clocked 11:31.53 (officially rounded to 11:32).

In the men’s race Callum Davies got the better of Ed Marks, winning by a second in 11:32. Michael Roeger broke the men’s Para record in 10:54 while Annabelle Colman did likewise in the women’s with a 13:08 run.

The fastest lap of the Tan is 10:08 by Craig Mottram, set in 2006, with the top ten fastest times all under 10:23.

Meanwhile, yesterday in Ballarat Jaylah Hancock-Cameron set a new Australian record for the road mile, clocking 4:26.4 to take out the Australian title ahead of Georgia Griffith (4:37.4) and Izzy Thornton-Bott (4:42.9). Thornton-Bott backed up for third at Run the Tan in 12:36.

The previous road mile record was formally held by Jess Hull at 4:32.45 from the 2023 World Road Running Championships, with Hull having run a faster 4:21.6 at the Fifth Avenue Mile in New York in 2023 on a non-record-eligible course.

Jude Thomas defended his title in the men’s race, running 4:03.6 from Connor Whiteley (4:03.9) and Luke Shaw (4:04.9).

In other results at the Ballarat Marathon:

  • Caden Shields (2:18:07) and Ellie Pashley (2:30:47) won the marathon
  • Brett Robinson (63:58) and Genevieve Gregson (70:49) took out the half-marathon
  • Brayden Noonan (29:58) and Sinead Diver (33:22) won the 10km events
  • Jack Rayner (14:07) and Georgina Grgec (16:08) won the 5km
