Lara Tamsett was a class above the rest of women’s 10000m field, lapping all of her competitors on her way to a 32:56.19 victory. The minor places were taken out by Cassie Fien (34:34.16) and New Zealand’s Belinda Wimmer (35:16.17).

Tamsett dedicated her victory to Australian marathoner Kerryn McCann, who passed away from cancer in the week of the event.

“It’s just a great feeling, especially tonight, with a tribute to Kerryn McCann, who was a great icon,”” Tamsett said following her track debut over the 25-lap distance.

“I always looked up to her and my aunt, Liz Miller, had a lot to do with her. It was nice running tonight and I’m … dedicating that one to her. It’s a sad night, but a special night too.”

Collis Birmingham led the men’s 10000m field, which was bolstered by international visitors for the Great Australian Run. But it was Victoria’s US college based David McNeill who took line honours, clocking 28:03.02 ahead of American Bobby Curtis (28:06.74) and Michael Shelley (28:08.96).

Eventual winner James Nipperess (196) sits comfortably behind Harry Summers and Richard Everest in the De Castella junior men’s 3000m. Nipperess won by two seconds in 8:19.33, from Everest (8:21.32) and ACTs Brett Robinson (8:22.95).

World junior 1500m finalist Bridey Delaney outclassed fellow world junior representative Chloe Tighe to win the Ondieki junior women’s 3000m in 9:21.43. Tighe (9:36.51) was second with Victoria’s Linden Hall (9:43.45) third.

Former national 800m champion Justin Rinaldi paced the men’s 1500m. Here he leads second placegetter Jeremy Roff (3:40.42), who was beaten home by Jeff Riseley in 3:39.77. Craig Huffer was third in 3:42.23.
